If you’re looking for something new in your classroom management upon return from the break, consider a house system! I don’t know about you, but I’ve always been fascinated by Harry Potter and the house system in Hogwarts. When Ron Clark’s school started using a similar system, I wondered about using it in my own classroom.
A few months into the school year, I decided to make one to use with my 3rd and 4th grade classes. Thus, a pirate themed house system was born. Since then, I’ve added nautical, monster, and Hollywood/movie themed systems.
Here are a few pictures from the displays of my pirate themed set.
The picture on the left is outside my classroom in the hallway. The right picture is inside. I update the house points at the end of each week. My school is on a 9-weeks schedule, so at the end of each term, the house with the most points receives a small “reward”. For the first 9-weeks, the leading house members were able to go shoe-less in the classroom! It was a big hit. Now to figure out what the 2nd 9-weeks reward will be before starting back on Monday!
If you’d like to get one of these themed house systems for your classroom, just visit my TPT store and take a look at the ones I have. Don’t see a theme to work with your class or have a suggestion for a different theme? Just comment below what you’d like to see and I can work on making it!
